I’m perticularly pissed off that Discogs has decided to take it upon themselves to decide exactly what copy I personally own of authentic Japanese mini lp cds! I’ve noticed some of my Authentic Japanese copies have been changed by either a bot or a very busy person to Russian fakes! Yes, there are many counterfeit copies out there, I’ve even bought a few, especially on Amazon! No I’m not a professional in this field, but my friend who owns a shop in Tokyo that sells mostly Blu-rays and Out of Print Laser Disc, Vinyl, and Disk Union Boxed sets is a Pro!

He can tell by just looking at a disc and knows immediately if it’s fake! All of my Japanese mini lp cds are authentic. There may be a couple of fakes that have slipped in as I’ve got several hundred. I have nievely bought counterfeit copies and I have thrown them away or sold as counterfeit copies for ripping to iTunes if you subscribe to iTunes Match! That’s the only use for counterfeit copies. The copies with are complete crap! These are the copies that Discogs has somehow decided are the authentic copies!

I’ve even found disc that I personally purchased in Tokyo or a my friend has sent to me that have been changed! The ones with the big black sticker that says ”Original Vinyl Replica” sound terrible and I don’t have these in my collection. I had two like this, an Elton John Cd and a Rolling Stones Cd that in my opinion are completely fake and sound like counterfeit copies. The set I own came from Japan, with the white sticker in the corner in Japanese and a set of Promo OBIs. It came directly from Disk Union!I don’t know who is changing these CDs from the authentic copy to the counterfeit copy. I pre-ordered and picked up a box set of The Rolling Stones DSD transfers to a high Resolution disc from Disk Union in 2006 that Discogs is now saying is counterfeit, but the ones they are saying are authentic are the cheaply made copies with this large black sticker on the front. It says “Original Vinyl Replica” and I noticed that one of The Rolling Stones disc that’s now listed as the authentic release has “Japon” on the top of the stock obi!

Who’s screwing with these titles and why? I’ve always purchased my Japanese mini lp cds from either CDJapan, through my great and honest friend who will get them from Disk Union, or from his own store where he ha# used disc and used promo box sets! What’s really “odd” is that these so called authentic copies say “ it is illegal to import this product into the country of Japan” on them! What the hell does that tell you. It’s either counterfeit or it’s made for the U.K. I wish Discogs would STOP deciding what they think I own and then change my authentic copies to these crappy sounding U.K.

Does Discogs really think that Disk Union or CDJapan would sell counterfeit disc or box sets? I pre-ordered The Rolling Stone’s CDs through my friend from Disk Union and I picked them up in Japan personally, so I doubt it very seriously! It is “Their Satanic Majestices Request” Promo Box Set and it came with a set of 7 Disk and 2 different copies of “Press the Buttons” one a copy of the USA release and the other of the U.K. Release along with separate Promo OBIs and a drawer style box.

I have all three sets of thess and they are all authentic items from Disk Union in Drawer style Bixes and promo OBIs. The only disc in this three set Promo Boxed collection that didn’t come with a promo OBI is the title “More Hot Rocks”! They sound incredible and they are authentic Japanese released and produced in Japan CDs!I’ve personally have spent a lot of money on these Promo Box sets and the series or titles that where not released in promo boxes, but are still a catalog or sometimes individual numbered, like 1 through 8 but are a series. I don’t perticularly like it when I discover that a title has been changed in my personal collection by a bot or a person that has decided that my titles is now considered a fake or counterfeit item. I’m well aware that some of these are made in the U.K., but I don’t own any of those bands as they are mostly not of interest to me! I’ve bought a few that come with OBIs that state that they are not manufactured in Japan on CDJapan because I wanted the title! But this is rare!

Check out the site, minilps.net, it’s very informative about where the fakes are made and what to look for, plus it will list the known sellers who are known dealers in authentic Japanese mini lp cds on the Auction site eBay!According to my long time friend in Tokyo, if someone is caught selling or producing these limited edition gems, they will be incarcerated for quite some time. I currently have close to 100 Disk Union sanctioned Promo collections and several other single copies and series by artist that Disk Union didn’t release a promo box for, some are Sony Japan boxes and some are Todhiba Box sets.I have bought boxes made in China for some series just to store them properly, but I’m aware of what I’m buying, so it’s something I know is not a sanctioned Promo Box, but a knock off.

I’m okay with that as the disc I store in these are authentic Japanese disc. That’s what is important to me and to the value of the ones that no Promo Box was issued for.Probably the most desired and valuable set I own is a set of Siouxsie and the banshees complete set with all the titles having a promo sticker on the UPC code and the impossible to find authentic box! Most of my gifted sets have “ not for sale “ on the Promo Box and stickers over the UPC codes! A large number of them have the additional promo OBIs that are getting very hard to find!

I have a few sets I’ve been searching for the promo box for now for years! Me 8 years to find the promo box for the now very rare “The Cure” Box Set as the boxes where extremely limited. I paid $185.00 USD for the box only. It’s that rare of a promo box and my friend in Tokyo was the one who got it for me. He actually talked down the gentleman who was.

Selling it for what was close to $250.00 at the time. But it’s a very nice thing to own and makes my investment complete and worth much more!I’m just really upset that a large number of disk I own and I know damn good and well that they are the real thing are being changed to the wave of newly listed counterfeit copies! It’s good that Discogs is getting rid of the counterfeit items and prohibiting the resale of these fake items, but who is behind this or what software or measure is responsible for deciding authenticity is incorrect on many titles! I’m not looking at my collections value too much now as it infuriates me that what I own is authentic and somehow it’s all of a sudden considered a counterfeit! If anyone else is in agreement with these changes, let me know! I would think that Discogs would verify the titles with the companies that produced these items as most are still in operation.Texasbear.
